Sustainable Fashion Takes Global Step with Paris Good Fashion Coalition

Takeaways
- Paris Good Fashion has launched the Fashion Cities Coalition, bringing together eight global capitals to advance sustainable fashion through collaboration.
- The initiative will focus on sharing best practices, hosting local workshops, and turning successful sustainability ideas into practical action.

A new international partnership aimed at advancing sustainable fashion has been launched by Paris Good Fashion, bringing together eight major cities to encourage greater collaboration across the global fashion industry.
The newly formed Fashion Cities Coalition (FCC) was unveiled during the second edition of Paris Good Fashion's annual Midsummer Camp. The initiative brings together Paris, Milan, Singapore, Dubai, Copenhagen, New York, London, and Cotonou (Benin) under a shared goal of accelerating sustainability through cooperation rather than competition.
According to Paris Good Fashion, the coalition has been designed as a non-commercial, pre-competitive platform where cities can exchange ideas, learn from one another, and develop practical solutions for the industry's environmental challenges. The organization believes many successful sustainability initiatives already exist worldwide but often remain isolated within individual fashion ecosystems.

The coalition was introduced by a panel of women leaders representing organizations across fashion, sustainability, consulting, and design. Speakers highlighted the importance of creating stronger international partnerships that allow knowledge and innovation to move more freely between regions.
Representatives from the United Arab Emirates said joining the coalition aligns with the country's broader sustainability ambitions, including its Net Zero 2050 strategy. They added that Dubai's long-standing relationships with global fashion brands provide a strong foundation for expanding collaboration across the wider fashion ecosystem.
Leaders from the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) also stressed that sustainability cannot be achieved by individual organizations alone. They noted that international cooperation can help designers, particularly small and medium-sized businesses, gain easier access to knowledge, tools, and resources that support more responsible production.
Singapore's representatives highlighted Asia's central role in global apparel manufacturing, noting that the region produces the majority of the world's clothing. They said stronger representation from Asian manufacturers will be essential for creating effective global sustainability solutions and positioned Singapore as a bridge between manufacturing hubs and leading fashion capitals.
Rather than introducing another industry pledge, the Fashion Cities Coalition will operate through a shared working model that other cities can adopt. Its first phase will run from 2026 to 2028 and will be built around two key initiatives.
The first is the creation of an international library that will collect case studies, pilot projects, research findings, and proven methods related to circular fashion and sustainability. The second involves each participating city hosting workshops that bring together stakeholders from across the fashion value chain to identify local challenges and develop practical responses.
These workshops will follow a common framework, allowing successful ideas to be replicated across different regions. KPMG will help develop the methodology, enabling participating cities to compare outcomes and scale effective approaches over time. The coalition expects this process to generate measurable actions that will be presented collectively in Paris in early 2028.

Industry leaders involved in the project said the initiative places a strong emphasis on evidence-based solutions and measurable progress. By converting proven practices into practical action, they believe the coalition can help accelerate the transition toward a more sustainable global fashion industry.
The initiative has already attracted support from several major fashion organizations and luxury brands, while discussions are underway with additional cities including Tokyo, Seoul, Mumbai, São Paulo, Dhaka, and Berlin, signalling that the coalition could continue expanding in the coming years.
