German Startup Encentive Uses AI to Lower Factory Power Bills

Highlights
- Encentive has raised €6.3 million for climate technology expansion.
- The flexOn AI platform directly controls industrial assets, lowering energy costs by up to 20%.
- Expansion plans cover cold storage, industrial batteries, and electrification of heat, with global growth on the horizon.
Industrial firms in Europe are reeling under rising energy prices and increasing climate demands, which create pressure to reduce costs and lower emissions.
To keep the businesses afloat during this hardship, German startup encentive has developed an AI platform named flexOn that can lower industrial electricity expenses by up to 20%.
To advance its work, the company has raised €6.3 million in a seed round led by US venture firm General Catalyst, bringing total funding to about €9 million.

Founded by Nicolás Juhl and Torge Lahrsen, encentive believes that energy flexibility offers an edge for manufacturers dealing with unpredictable prices and carbon targets.
The company originally explored household energy control but shifted to the industrial sector, where savings at a single site can equal the reductions of thousands of homes. The flexOn system aligns factory energy use with periods when renewable electricity is more plentiful and less expensive.
Unlike software that only shows dashboards or recommendations, flexOn connects directly to machines such as refrigeration units, heating systems, and industrial batteries. The AI forecasts energy prices and renewable supply for the next one to three days and then adjusts equipment in real time. This method allows immediate savings without interrupting production.
Encentive has already become a leader in managing cold-storage energy. The next phase is wider use of industrial battery storage, followed by plans to work with the electrification of heat.

With the new investment, the company will expand internationally and develop its platform, entering a market where competitors include IBM Envizi, Honeywell Forge, and Futr OS.
