- Alongside sustainability initiatives, Flexential is strengthening governance and investing in workforce development to support long-term growth.
Flexential has released its Flexential ESG Report 2025, outlining how the company is expanding its data centre network while improving environmental performance and operational resilience. The report details investments in energy efficiency, renewable energy, water conservation, governance, and workforce development as demand for AI-ready data centres continues to grow.
As artificial intelligence drives the need for more computing power, data centre operators face increasing pressure to expand capacity without significantly increasing environmental impact. Flexential says its latest initiatives are designed to help achieve both objectives by improving how facilities are built and operated.

Ryan Mallory, CEO of Flexential, said customers are increasingly evaluating infrastructure providers based not only on available capacity but also on sustainability and operational practices.
According to the report, the company currently uses 402 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of renewable energy across its operations. It is also implementing projects that improve efficiency while preparing its facilities for higher-density computing workloads.
One of the largest initiatives involves upgrading air handling units across 14 data centres. Flexential estimates the program will reduce annual electricity consumption by 7.1GWh, helping lower operating costs and emissions.
The report also highlights the company's focus on improving the environmental performance of new facilities. Newly developed sites are being designed to achieve a Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) of 1.4 while targeting zero Water Usage Effectiveness (WUE) through efficient cooling systems.
Currently, around 84% of Flexential's data centre capacity is supported by closed-loop cooling technology, which continuously recirculates cooling water instead of relying on a constant supply of fresh water. This approach helps reduce water consumption while maintaining reliable operations.
Several expansion projects are also progressing across the company's portfolio. Portland-Hillsboro 4 has entered service, while Portland-Hillsboro 5 and Atlanta-Douglasville 2 are under development with the same sustainability-focused design standards.
Additional improvements are being introduced at existing facilities. At the Las Vegas-North data centre, a side-stream filtration system is expected to save 1.6GWh of electricity each year while reducing annual water consumption by 2.6 million gallons.
Meanwhile, Flexential has completed adiabatic precooling upgrades at its Salt Lake City-South Valley facility. The company expects the project to lower peak PUE by 10.4% and reduce annual energy use by approximately 250MWh.
Beyond infrastructure, the Flexential ESG Report 2025 also emphasizes governance and workforce development. The company says it is strengthening internal systems, oversight processes, and employee development programs to support responsible expansion as demand for digital infrastructure continues to increase.
Chief Operating Officer Sam Rudek said the company is enhancing the processes needed to manage growth, address emerging risks, and maintain reliable service for customers. He added that these efforts support sustainable expansion while reinforcing accountability, transparency, and operational performance.
