CAMIMEX has released its 2025 Sustainability Report, outlining major ESG impact achievements across the Mexican mining sector in 2024. The report, presented at the XXXVI Mining Convention in Acapulco, details strong performance in economic contribution, environmental investments, and community development.
According to the report, mining companies invested MX$8 billion (US$440 million) in environmental initiatives last year. The sector also played a critical role in job creation, generating more than 416,000 direct jobs and 2.6 million indirect positions. Average wages were 28% higher than the national average. Mining contributed 8.7% of industrial GDP, produced over MX$259 billion in economic output, and delivered MX$45 billion in fiscal contributions, underscoring its importance to the national economy.
CAMIMEX President Pedro Rivero highlighted improvements in labor conditions and safety. He noted that the sector’s accident rate is 43% lower than Mexico’s national average, a sign of a more resilient and responsibly managed industry. “Mexican mining is moving toward a model that is increasingly responsible, innovative, and sustainable,” he said.

Community Development and Social Impact
Community development remained central to the industry’s ESG commitments. Mining companies invested MX$1.9 billion in social programs that benefited more than 650,000 people. Companies granted over 8,000 scholarships, supported 800 schools, and provided 58,000 hours of training in STEM, gender equity, and English. Healthcare services also expanded, with 114,000 consultations provided and 50 clinics kept operational. Strengthening local supply chains was another priority, with 5,500 suppliers supported and 100 new productive projects launched.
Environmental Stewardship and Clean Energy Efforts
Environmental protection featured prominently in the CAMIMEX 2025 Sustainability Report. Mining companies recycled 71% of the water they used and operated 100 treatment plants. They complied with the National Agreement on the Human Right to Water, returning more than 30 million m³ to the environment.
Progress on clean energy also continued. Forty-one mining sites now rely on renewable sources, with a goal to reach 44% clean energy consumption by 2030. Biodiversity conservation programs restored nearly 800 hectares and continued protecting key species such as the Mexican gray wolf, with 67 individuals in care and 27 released since 2012.
Mexico’s Global Role and Regulatory Outlook
Rivero emphasized Mexico’s strategic role in supplying critical minerals needed for the global energy transition, including copper, silicon, silver, manganese, and fluorite. Mexico produces 23 minerals globally, nine of which are considered regionally critical.
While acknowledging regulatory and exploration challenges, Rivero said continued dialogue with the government is helping stabilize the investment environment. At the convention, officials announced plans to accelerate mining permit approvals starting in 2026. Three new permits have already been granted, covering land use, exploration, extraction, and environmental evaluations.

Ebrard noted that securing mineral supply chains is now essential in a tense geopolitical climate. Faster permitting aims to support large-scale exploration and keep Mexico competitive in global markets.
