DHL-Westwing Boost Low Carbon Logistics for Faster E-Commerce

Takeaways
- DHL and Westwing are expanding their low-carbon logistics partnership to cut emissions while improving delivery speed across Europe.
- The collaboration uses DHL’s GoGreen Plus service, electric vehicles, and paper-based packaging to reduce supply chain emissions.
- New infrastructure and flexible delivery options aim to make e-commerce logistics both faster and more sustainable.
DHL Group and home and living e-commerce platform Westwing are deepening their long-running green logistics partnership, with a renewed focus on low-carbon logistics and faster delivery across Europe. The expanded agreement will see DHL manage a larger share of Westwing’s parcel volumes in Germany while shifting more shipments to sustainable delivery solutions.
At the center of the move is DHL GoGreen Plus, a service designed to help companies lower supply chain emissions through sustainable fuels and cleaner transport options. The program uses an insetting and book-and-claim model, allowing customers like Westwing to claim verified emissions reductions even if every parcel is not directly carried on low-emission vehicles.
DHL says investments linked to the program include electric delivery vehicles, renewable energy infrastructure, and alternative fuels across its network.

“We are thrilled to strengthen our partnership with Westwing,” said Valentin Dessel, Key Account Manager Post & Parcel Germany at DHL Group. “Together, we look forward to delivering exceptional shipping services and supporting our customers’ values through GoGreen Plus.”
Packaging and last-mile delivery strategies are also changing. DHL will move Westwing’s fulfilled orders to fully paper-based packaging, reducing plastic use across shipments. The switch reflects growing pressure on European retailers to tackle Scope 3 supply chain emissions, especially those tied to packaging and logistics.
To further cut emissions and improve efficiency, the companies are expanding flexible delivery models. A Pick Up Drop Off (PUDO) service allows customers to collect parcels from lockers or designated points rather than their home addresses. The model reduces failed deliveries and repeat trips, lowering both costs and carbon output. The option, which began with select products, will soon cover Westwing’s entire catalog.
“At Westwing, operational excellence and sustainability go hand in hand,” said Erick Gerber, Chief Operations Officer at Westwing. “By expanding our collaboration with DHL and using GoGreen Plus, we are not only making our supply chain faster, but also less carbon-intensive.”
Infrastructure is another focus area. DHL recently invested in a new International Logistics Center in Poland, located close to Westwing’s European hub near Poznań. The proximity is expected to streamline sorting and cross-border distribution, cutting transit times. DHL estimates some orders to Germany could now arrive within two days.
Industry observers say such moves highlight how e-commerce logistics is evolving beyond speed alone. Logistics providers are increasingly offering decarbonization services as premium options, while retailers face tighter regulations and stronger consumer expectations around sustainability.

For both companies, the message is clear: Green performance and delivery performance must now go hand in hand. As low-carbon logistics becomes a competitive advantage, partnerships like DHL and Westwing’s may set the standard for how Europe’s online retail supply chains operate in the years ahead.
