Hydro Attains ASI Certification Milestone
Norsk Hydro ASA

Hydro's Extrusion North America business unit has achieved a significant milestone by obtaining the Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI) Performance Standard V2 certification at 23 of its sites in the United States and Canada.
The ASI is a voluntary sustainability standard initiative that encompasses the entire aluminium value chain, making it the most comprehensive of its kind. The Performance Standard sets out a framework of environmental, social, and governance (ESG) principles and criteria aimed at addressing sustainability concerns within the aluminum industry.
The certification process involved rigorous evaluations of each site's governance, policies, management practices, transparency, reporting, environmental impact, biodiversity, labour rights, and various other factors. To ensure adherence to the ASI standards, DNV carried out independent third-party audits.
Charlie Straface, President of Hydro Extrusion North America, expressed satisfaction at reaching this certification milestone, praising Hydro's commitment to sustainability and responsible business practices.
Looking ahead, the possibility of obtaining ASI Chain of Custody (CoC) certification for these sites is under consideration and will be assessed in the upcoming year.
The achievement of ASI certification aligns with the growing demand from customers in North America for eco-friendly products and greater transparency. By securing this certification, Hydro's Extrusion North America asserts itself as a leader in sustainability within the region.
Hydro, with its global presence spanning approximately 100 production sites, has now certified almost all of its facilities with ASI standards. The remaining few sites are actively progressing in their certification processes, demonstrating Hydro's ongoing dedication to sustainability across its operations.
