Alcoa Corporation has released its 2022 Sustainability Report, showcasing the company's ongoing advancements in Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) initiatives.
According to Alcoa President and CEO Roy Harvey, responsible and sustainable practices are essential for the company, its customers, and the world. Alcoa recognises that strong ESG performance will be crucial for future success, and it has made sustainable progress a strategic priority, aiming to redefine the aluminium industry.
The report highlights several notable achievements, including maintaining a strong commitment to safety with zero fatalities.
Alcoa has also made significant strides in increasing the percentage of renewable electricity sources for its global smelting portfolio, which now stands at 86 per cent.
The company has made consistent progress in reducing carbon dioxide emissions, achieving a 4.6 per cent annual decrease.
Alcoa's SustanaTM brand of products has supported customers in reaching their own sustainability objectives through increased sales.
Additionally, Alcoa remains focused on research and development programmes to further decarbonise and achieve its ambitious goal of net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.
Alcoa has also demonstrated its commitment to diversity and inclusion by increasing hires from underrepresented groups by 37 per cent.
The company has further enhanced its Responsible Sourcing Programme, prioritising human rights and social performance, resulting in a top 1 per cent ranking within Alcoa's industry sector by EcoVadis, a provider of business sustainability ratings. Alcoa has continued to invest in communities through its Alcoa Foundation and corporate giving programmes.
The sustainability report aligns Alcoa's progress with indicators defined by the Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB), key United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, and the International Council for Mining and Metals' 10 Principles. Moreover, the report adheres to the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) Core Standard, ensuring comprehensive and transparent reporting.
