As organizations face growing pressure to respond to climate change, biodiversity loss, and social inequality, sustainability expertise has become increasingly important. Founded in 1971, Environmental Resources Management (ERM) has grown into one of the world's leading sustainability consulting firms. The company works with businesses across multiple industries, helping them navigate environmental, social, and governance challenges while identifying opportunities for sustainable growth.

A major part of ERM’s commitment to decarbonization is its ongoing investment in innovation, technology, and data-driven solutions. These capabilities help organizations manage risks, reduce emissions, and advance their net-zero transition strategies while creating lasting business value.
Beyond its consulting services, ERM extends its impact through the ERM Foundation. Established in 1995, the Foundation supports nonprofit organizations and social enterprises around the world through grant funding, employee volunteering, and professional pro bono services.
The Foundation focuses on several key areas, including sustainable livelihoods, human rights, modern slavery prevention, and the promotion of a nature-positive, net-zero future. Over the last three decades, it has distributed more than US$7.4 million in grants and delivered over 21,500 hours of technical support to organizations working on sustainability initiatives.
Its environmental achievements are equally notable. The Foundation has helped protect, restore, or rewild more than 480,000 hectares of land and contributed to improving access to clean water and sanitation for more than three million livelihoods globally.
Speaking about the Foundation’s impact, Interim CEO Sabine Hoefnagel highlighted the role of employees and partners in driving meaningful change. She noted that teams continue to support dozens of nonprofit and social enterprise organizations through funding, volunteering, and technical expertise focused on biodiversity, carbon reduction, and community development.
Hoefnagel brings nearly 30 years of experience in sustainability consulting and has held several leadership positions since joining ERM in 2000. Before becoming Interim CEO in 2026, she served in strategic and sustainability leadership roles across the organization.
Her background includes expertise in sustainability strategy, risk management, social performance, and human rights across industries such as finance, energy, mining, and manufacturing. Before joining ERM, she worked with the United Nations Environment Program on sustainability-related initiatives.
