Highlights
The companies collaborate to use (SAF) at Chicago O'Hare International Airport.
United becomes the first airline to use SAF for regular flights from this busy airport.
Neste's SAF reduces greenhouse gas emissions by up to 80% compared to traditional jet fuel.
Illinois' SAF Purchase Credit expedites adoption of sustainable aviation fuel.
Neste, a leader in renewable fuels, has expanded its partnership with United Airlines to bring sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) to Chicago O'Hare International Airport.
United Airlines will be the first to use SAF for regular flights from Chicago O'Hare, one of the busiest airports in the United States. The fuel will be delivered via pipeline from Neste's new SAF terminal in Houston, which expands the availability of it for airlines across the country.
Neste produces SAF from sustainable waste materials like used cooking oil and animal fat. Compared to traditional jet fuel, it cuts greenhouse gas emissions by up to 80% when used in its pure form and measured with standard life cycle assessment methods like CORSI. This offers a promising way for airlines to cut down on their carbon footprint.
The partnership between Neste and United Airlines is supported by government initiatives, including Illinois' SAF Purchase Credit. This tax incentive promotes the adoption of SAF in the state, which is a major hub for air travel.
As the aviation industry works to be more sustainable, partnerships between fuel providers and airlines are important. United Airlines is using SAF to support sustainability, and Neste is showing how renewable fuels can improve air travel.
