LG Electronics (LG) is poised to reveal its groundbreaking living concept, the LG Smart Cottage, at IFA 2023.

This ingenious creation embodies a compact and modular home design, encompassing LG's cutting-edge heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems, along with its latest smart home appliances and services.

Merging luxurious appliances and user-friendly services within a structure constructed using the most advanced modular housing techniques, the LG Smart Cottage introduces an entirely fresh approach to modern residential living.

Envisioned with sustainability as its core principle and aligned with LG's mission of A Better Life for All, the Smart Cottage showcases a two-story, studio-style layout that offers both functionality and space efficiency.

This modular dwelling, with its compact footprint yet comprehensive array of appliances and amenities, can be effortlessly transported and positioned at the chosen location.

ReportLinker's research indicates that the global market for prefabricated housing is projected to achieve an estimated USD 22.9 billion by 2028, exhibiting a compound annual growth rate of 4.8 per cent from 2023 to 2028.

Internally, the Smart Cottage exudes an atmosphere of premium relaxation, attributed to LG's "gentle, stable, and refined" design philosophy, harmoniously integrating diverse materials such as hardwood, tile, and brass. To minimise ecological impact, the replaceable module components of the home are fabricated from low-carbon steel materials supplied by South Korea's renowned steel company, POSCO.

Incorporating innovative, high-efficiency solutions for the kitchen, living spaces, and air management, the LG Smart Cottage features appliances like the WashTower Compact, QuadWash™ dishwasher, various built-in kitchen appliances, a water purifier, and the Therma V™ Monobloc air-to-water heat pump (AWHP).

Not only does LG's energy-saving AWHP ensure year-round indoor comfort while consuming less power compared to traditional heating and cooling systems, but it also supplies a dependable source of hot water through its integration with the 200-litre-capacity Integrated Water Tank (IWT).

Beyond the interior, the Smart Cottage's exterior integrates LG's sustainability-focused technologies, capable of fulfilling the daily energy requirements for up to two occupants.

Roof-mounted 4-kilowatt (kW) solar panels link to the Energy Storage System (ESS), ensuring secure and reliable on-site collection and storage of solar energy, producing up to 15 kilowatts of electricity per day. Excess energy can be stored in the ESS for future use or even sold to contracted electricity providers.

Moreover, the modular design of LG's dwelling includes a built-in electric vehicle (EV) charger, negating the need for homeowners to separately install one for their EV charging needs.

Delivering a seamless and intelligent user experience, all appliances within this extraordinary residence seamlessly integrate with LG ThinQ. Through the ThinQ app, users can effortlessly manage each appliance, control the entire HVAC system, and monitor real-time energy storage and consumption.

Additionally, LG ThinQ interfaces with the Smart Cottage's security-enhancing Internet of Things (IoT) accessories, encompassing cameras, motion sensors, and smart doorbells, ensuring residents' safety and peace of mind.

In the collaborative realisation of the Smart Cottage, LG partnered with GS Engineering & Construction Corp (GS E&C), a prominent South Korean construction and civil engineering services provider.

Lyu Jae-cheol, president of LG Electronics Home Appliance & Air Solution Company, remarked, "Beyond its identity as a prefabricated dwelling, the LG Smart Cottage represents an inventive housing solution that fosters sustainable living through cutting-edge ThinQ connectivity." He added, "LG aspires to redefine residential living by seamlessly amalgamating energy solutions, appliances, and services into a space that empowers people to embrace life on their own terms."

From September 1-5, attendees of IFA 2023 can immerse themselves in the innovative realm of the LG Smart Cottage and explore an array of other life-enhancing innovations at LG's booth (Hall 18, Messe Berlin).
