British climate technology company Levidian has collaborated with Sweden-based material technology company Graphmatech to develop graphene-based polymer solutions for the hydrogen sector and other high-growth industries.

The goal is to expand the adoption of graphene products and increase their use in other materials used in industrial applications.

Levidian uses LOOP technology to capture carbon from methane before it is burned. This process is more sustainable as it reduces heavy-emitting industries' carbon footprint and produces clean hydrogen and top-quality graphene.

Meanwhile, Graphmatech’s Aros Graphene® technology helps mix graphene with metals and plastics to improve their strength, conductivity, as well as resistance to gas leakage.

The companies will combine their expertise and co-develop high-performance polymer-graphene composites for usage in hydrogen pipelines and pressure vessels. Studies say that when graphene is added to these materials, hydrogen gas leakage can be reduced by up to 83%, making storage and transportation safer and more efficient.

Initially, product development begins in the UK and Sweden, with plans to expand to the Middle East, most likely in Abu Dhabi. Levidian is also pondering a plan to construct a production and delivery centre in the region, which, once completed, will create more than 100 direct and 150 indirect jobs. The hydrogen sector is poised for massive growth, with demand expected to triple by 2050.
