Key Takeaways

  • Dow introduces bio-circular product for the flooring industry.

  • Supports carpet tile backing with stability and adhesion and reduces carbon impact.

  • Dow’s bio-circular products are ISCC PLUS certified.

Dow has launched its first bio-circular product for the flooring industry to the ENGAGE™ REN Polyolefin Elastomers (POE) line.

The bio-circular product performs like other ENGAGE™ POEs and helps customers achieve their sustainability goals. By using alternative feedstocks from biological residues and responsible waste, such as used cooking oil, Dow’s bio-circular products have a lower carbon footprint than traditional petrochemicals. These materials are ISCC PLUS certified under a mass balance approach for transparency and traceability in the supply chain.

Joanna Giovanoli, senior marketing manager for Dow’s Packaging and Specialty Plastics business, said: “This innovation represents a crucial step toward expanding our circularity offerings into new markets. By supporting our flooring customers with bio-circular feedstock options that maintain high performance, we can give waste a new life, potentially reducing carbon footprints and reliance on fossil feedstocks. This is how we are moving Dow and our customers closer to shared sustainability goals.”

Bio-circular materials are key to Dow’s lower-carbon plastics vision. Dow’s “Transform the Waste” goal is to commercialise 3 million metric tonnes of circular and renewable solutions by 2030, using plastic waste and alternative feedstocks. This is for a circular economy by enabling material reuse.

Rosalyn Kent, associate TS&D scientist for Dow’s Packaging and Specialty Plastics business, said: “We are committed to developing innovative products that meet the sustainability needs of our customers and help drive toward a circular economy. To do this, we continue to explore alternative feedstock options that reduce the impacts of production and invest in new partnerships that progress bio-circular raw materials to produce high-quality resins.”
