Digital Platform Facilitates in Houston to Enhance Waste and Recycling Systems

Rubicon Technologies' digital platform helps the city of Houston improve its waste management and recycling system. The city of Houston, one of the largest in the US, is looking forward to digitising its waste and recycling systems.
Houston will utilise the Rubicon Smart City cloud-based platform to assist governments efficiently in dealing with garbage, recycling, and heavy-duty fleet operations as part of a three-year agreement. The system will gather onboard data and include a web-based portal to assist Houston's Department of Solid Waste in tracking recycling metrics such as service verifications, missed collections, vehicle use, and maintenance data.
Houston's entire garbage and recycling fleet, which includes 391 vehicles, will be equipped with smart technology. It will also allow drivers to log any difficulties they see on their routes, such as recycling contamination and providing information on the city's waste infrastructure to all levels of operations.
Rubicon has just signed a multi-year deal with SRS, a distributor of external building and outdoor living goods, to leverage its digital trash and recycling platforms. SRS has around 600 locations across the US and is using the software to manage its waste and recycling as well as provide sustainability data, analytics and reporting tools.
In the United States, the Smart City platform is being utilised in 70 cities, with initiatives in Baltimore, Memphis, and San Antonio.
Mark Wilfalk, Solid Waste Management Department Director, said: "These insights, alongside route optimisation and digitisation efforts, are set to deliver an optimal operation to the City of Houston."
