Amcor, SK Boost Recycled Content Supply
Amcor Plc

Amcor, a global pioneer in the creation of eco-conscious packaging solutions, has just unveiled an exciting development.
The company has officially inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with SK Geo Centric (SK), a prominent petrochemical firm headquartered in South Korea. This partnership, set to commence in 2025, will primarily focus on sourcing advanced recycled materials in the Asia Pacific region.
The MOU forged between Amcor and SK marks a significant stride towards offering sustainable packaging solutions containing recycled content to customers in the food and healthcare sectors. These offerings will be accessible in key markets within Asia Pacific and across the globe.
This initiative builds upon Amcor's pre-existing access to advanced recycled materials through its collaboration with ExxonMobil, as well as its recent investment in Licella, an Australian enterprise. Collectively, these partnerships propel Amcor towards the achievement of its ambitious goal: incorporating 30% recycled content across its product portfolio by 2030.
Mike Cash, President of Amcor Flexibles Asia Pacific, emphasised the growing importance of delivering sustainable packaging solutions that integrate recycled materials across all consumer categories.
He highlighted how these strategic partnerships will empower Amcor to unlock fresh opportunities for its food and healthcare clientele, enabling them to embrace recycled content in their packaging. Moreover, these collaborations will play a pivotal role in nurturing a circular economy, significantly reducing the reliance on virgin plastic.
Na Kyung-soo, CEO of SK Geo Centric, expressed a shared commitment to advancing a circular economy. He underscored their dedication to expanding the supply chain, utilising pyrolysis oil derived from end-of-life plastic to provide recycled content for consumer packaging, thereby marking a pivotal step forward in this endeavour.
SK Geo Centric employs a cutting-edge process to extract pyrolysis oil from end-of-life plastic waste that would otherwise end up in landfills. Their proprietary post-processing technology enables the substitution of crude oil as a feedstock for petrochemical processes, ultimately producing polyethylene for the creation of sustainable packaging materials, benefiting both the environment and their customers.
