$25M in Funding Announced for Youth-Led Climate Solutions

- Youth and young adults have the courage, creativity, and urgency to bring bold climate solutions to life.
- The award supports them in funding their climate ideas, as they often scramble to attract investors.
- Focus on women-led institutions, Indigenous groups, and many.
Enlight Foundation, The Patchwork Collective, and Lever for Change, which focus on youth empowerment, have launched a new initiative aimed at encouraging youth-led organisations working on advancing climate technology.
The Emerging Climate Champions Award offers a total of $25 million in funding and provides flexible, multi-year grants of $1 million each to organisations led by young people working on climate solutions.
Climate change will have a huge bearing on the lives of future generations, particularly those between 15 and 35 now, who are very likely to bear the brunt of the climate crisis in the years ahead. However, these budding organisations receive very little funding support, with global climate philanthropy accounting for just 2% of total charitable giving, and youth-focused funding even smaller at $14.2 million per year.

The award recognises the struggles and concerns of young climate leaders and addresses the local and cultural contexts of their work.
Who gets the benefits? It is open to youth-led, community-based organisations that have been running for a minimum of two years and have measurable results in their climate work. It also encourages under-represented groups to apply, such as women-run entities, Indigenous institutions, grassroots movements, and others.
Not confined to one area, the organisers are inviting a wide choice of climate solutions, covering climate education, climate justice, technology, economic opportunities, resilience building, conservation, sustainable agriculture, disaster preparedness, advocacy, and other areas.
Xin Liu, Founder and President of Enlight Foundation, said: "We believe young people hold the brightest and boldest solutions to climate change and deserve the opportunity to bring those ideas to life.
“Young people face the most significant risks amidst the escalating threats of climate change, yet they are often underfunded and lack support. Our aim with this open call is to invite young leaders from all around the world to share their lived experiences and put their innovative ideas into action.”
