ICT Group Sustainability Strategy Expands Ahead of CSRD Compliance

Takeaways
- ICT Group has achieved ISO 14001 certification and achieved a Level 5 rating on the CO2 Performance Ladder, thereby strengthening its sustainability credentials.
- The company is preparing for compliance with the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), set to apply from 2027.
- Sustainability is embedded across operations, suppliers, employees, and the wider value chain.
ICT Group has taken significant steps to strengthen its sustainability profile, earning internationally recognized certifications and preparing for new European reporting requirements.
The company recently secured ISO 14001 certification, a globally recognized environmental management standard developed by the International Organization for Standardization. According to Peter Lamers, Quality, Health, Safety, and Environment (QHSE) Manager at ICT Group, the certification reflects the company’s commitment to sustainable business operations.
“Many European customers ask for ISO 14001, and it fits our European profile,” Lamers said. “It is a widely recognized international standard. This allows us to increase our visibility abroad.”
The ISO 14001 certification confirms that ICT Group complies with legal environmental requirements, manages environmental risks, and continuously improves its environmental performance. Although ICT Group primarily supplies software and does not operate production facilities, the certification has encouraged the company to take a closer look at its environmental impact across offices and operations.

CO2 Performance Ladder Level 5
ICT Group has also strengthened its climate action efforts. Last year, the company achieved Level 5, the highest level on the CO2 Performance Ladder, a certification scheme designed to help organizations reduce carbon emissions. This year, ICT TriOpSys, acquired by ICT Group last year, also reached Level 5, up from Level 3.
Lamers explained that integrating acquired companies into existing certification systems is a priority. “For example, we try to fit all the certificates of companies that ICT Group acquires into the existing certification systems. Conversely, TriOpSys already had ISO 14001. We gratefully used that knowledge to clarify what we needed to arrange for this. That has certainly accelerated this process,” he noted.
Both ISO 14001 certification and CO2 Performance Ladder Level 5 require companies to assess emissions across their entire value chain. ICT Group has conducted chain analyses to identify where emissions are highest and is working with customers to reduce CO2 emissions.
Sustainability has also been integrated into the company’s Supplier Code of Conduct. By setting expectations for suppliers, ICT Group aims to lower not only its own environmental impact but also that of its partners.
Preparing for CSRD Compliance
Looking ahead, ICT Group is preparing for the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), a European directive that requires large companies to publish detailed annual reports on their sustainability performance. The directive is part of the European Union’s broader sustainability framework and will apply to the ICT Group from 2027.
“This allows us to be transparent and verifiable about what we do about sustainability. We are increasingly showing that we are in control.” Lamers said.
The company is currently collecting data aligned with the directive’s key performance indicators (KPIs). The new reporting rules will provide a structured and transparent framework for ICT Group’s ESG policy, enabling the company to clearly communicate its progress to stakeholders.
Sustainability is also emphasized internally. During onboarding, employees are informed about ICT Group's sustainability initiatives and encouraged to support the company’s environmental goals.
