Gildan Activewear Inc. is delighted to announce a momentous achievement in its ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) strategy.

The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) has validated the company's 2030 near-term greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reduction targets, confirming their alignment with the SBTi Criteria and Recommendations (version 4.2). This validation marks a significant milestone in Gildan's commitment to sustainability and combating climate change.

The SBTi's target validation team has classified Gildan's Scope 1 and 2 targets as being in line with a well-below 2ºC trajectory, indicating the company's proactive efforts to limit global warming.

Peter Iliopoulos, Senior Vice-President of Taxation, Sustainability, and Governmental Affairs, emphasises the importance of this validation in reinforcing their dedication to a sustainable future. He highlights that Gildan has been diligently implementing its new climate strategy across the organisation over the past year, aiming to achieve its third generation of GHG emissions reduction targets by 2030.

In 2022, Gildan introduced its visionary Next Generation ESG strategy and targets aimed at addressing critical global environmental and social priorities and promoting sustainability in products worldwide.

As part of this strategy, the company committed to reducing its absolute Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by 30% by 2030, using a 2018 base year, and also to decrease its absolute Scope 3 GHG emissions by 13.5% by 2030, using a 2019 base year.

The SBTi has now thoroughly reviewed and approved both of these lofty goals, reaffirming Gildan's dedication to meaningful advancements and ethical behaviour.
