Renasens Secures €10 Million to Expand Waterless Textile Recycling Technology

Takeaways
- Renasens secures €10 million in seed funding to expand its textile recycling technology across Europe.
- The startup’s waterless, chemical-free process uses modified supercritical CO₂ to recover high-quality fibers from mixed textile waste.
- The solution supports circular fashion goals and helps brands prepare for upcoming EU textile waste regulations.
Sweden-based cleantech company Renasens has raised €10 million (about $11.5 million) in a seed funding round to scale its innovative textile recycling technology. The investment will help the company expand its waterless recycling platform and establish a pilot facility in Borås, Sweden, strengthening Europe’s transition toward sustainable textiles and circular production systems.
Founded in 2022 by Dr. Jade Bouledjouidja, Renasens aims to tackle one of the fashion industry’s biggest environmental challenges: Managing large volumes of mixed textile waste. Many garments today are made from blended materials, which are difficult to recycle using conventional processes. Renasens’ fiber-to-fiber recycling solution offers a way to recover valuable materials without harming fiber quality.
The company’s process uses modified supercritical CO₂ recycling, a state in which carbon dioxide behaves like both a liquid and a gas. This allows the system to remove dyes and separate blended fibers without the use of water or harsh chemicals. Unlike traditional recycling methods that often break down fibers into lower-quality materials, the Renasens platform preserves fiber integrity. This means recovered fibers can be reused directly in existing manufacturing systems without the need for new equipment or additional chemical processing.

The new funding will support the development of a pilot plant in Borås, a city known for its textile innovation ecosystem. The company plans to feed recovered fibers back into European supply chains, helping manufacturers adopt circular fashion practices more easily. The modular design of the platform also allows the technology to be integrated into existing facilities, reducing the need for large centralized recycling plants.
The funding round was led by climate-focused investor Extantia, with participation from Course Corrected VC and existing investor Norrsken Launcher. Investors believe Renasens could play an important role in strengthening Europe’s textile waste management infrastructure, especially as regulatory pressure increases.
From January 2025, European Union member states are required to provide separate textile collection systems. In addition, the Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) rules expected by June 2027 will require brands to pay fees based on how recyclable their products are. These policy changes are driving demand for scalable textile recycling technology that can help companies meet sustainability targets.
Dr. Jade Bouledjouidja, Founder and CEO of Renasens, said the company aims to make post-consumer textile waste economically viable to recycle at scale. According to Bouledjouidja, the company has solved key material science challenges and is now focused on building partnerships and infrastructure that can support widespread adoption of recycled fibers.
Investors also see strategic value in the company’s approach. Extantia’s Principal Carlota Ochoa Neven Du Mont described Renasens as a critical part of Europe’s sustainability infrastructure, helping brands access locally sourced recycled fibers while reducing environmental impact.
