Meta Signs Solar Energy Purchase Agreement with Zelestra for Texas Project

Takeaways
- Meta has signed a 176 MW solar Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Zelestra in Texas.
- The deal supports Meta’s net-zero emissions goal by 2030 and 100% renewable energy matching.
- The partnership now totals 1.2 GW of contracted solar capacity across seven U.S. projects.
Meta has signed a new solar energy purchase agreement with Madrid-based renewable energy developer Zelestra to source 176 megawatts (MW) of power from a planned solar project in Texas, further strengthening the tech giant’s clean energy portfolio in the United States.
The Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) will enable Meta to procure electricity generated by the new Texas solar facility and add fresh renewable capacity to the local grid. The company said the deal supports its broader strategy of matching its operations with 100% clean and renewable energy, while advancing its goal to reach net-zero emissions by 2030 across its value chain.
Meta, the parent company of Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, has become one of the world’s largest corporate buyers of renewable energy. The latest agreement continues its push to secure long-term clean power as energy demand grows across its data centers and digital infrastructure.

The Texas project marks another milestone in Meta’s ongoing collaboration with Zelestra. With this addition, the two companies have now contracted approximately 1.2 gigawatts (GW) of solar capacity across seven projects in the U.S. All facilities are expected to be operational by 2028.
Zelestra recently brought its first project under the partnership online: the 81 MWdc Jasper County Solar Project in Indiana, which has reached full commercial operations. Construction has also begun on two additional sites, while the Texas project, known as Skull Creek, is moving forward under the newly signed agreement.
Phil North, CEO of Zelestra U.S., said the partnership with Meta is accelerating the company’s clean energy deployment nationwide.
“Our clean energy collaboration with Meta is gathering momentum across the U.S. We are delighted to welcome full operations at Jasper County and the start of construction at two further major projects, while also closing another major agreement that will enable the construction of Skull Creek in Texas,” North said. “Thanks to our forward-looking partnership, nearly 1.2 GWdc of new clean solar power will soon be operational in the U.S.”
Industry observers note that long-term renewable energy procurement through PPAs has become a preferred strategy for large corporations seeking price stability while reducing emissions. For developers like Zelestra, such agreements provide predictable revenue that supports new project financing and construction.

For Meta, the Texas solar deal not only helps decarbonize its energy use but also contributes additional clean electricity to regional grids, supporting broader U.S. solar development and local sustainability goals.
As tech companies continue to expand their energy-intensive operations, agreements like this are expected to play a key role in aligning growth with climate commitments.
