Enbridge has released its 2025 Sustainability Report, marking 25 years of sustainability reporting as the company continues to balance traditional energy operations with investments in cleaner energy solutions.
The company, which employs around 16,000 people across North America and Europe, said the report outlines its long-term approach to renewable energy, energy access, emissions reduction, and lower-carbon technologies.
Enbridge operates liquid and natural gas pipelines while steadily expanding its renewable energy business. According to the report, the company is working to deliver reliable energy supplies while supporting the shift toward a lower-emissions future.
A major focus of the Enbridge Sustainability Report is renewable energy growth. In 2025, the company’s renewable energy projects reached a generating capacity of 7,237 megawatts. Most of this electricity is being sold through long-term power purchase agreements, providing a stable, clean energy supply to customers.

The company said sustainability is now integrated into its overall business strategy through stakeholder engagement, governance measures, transparency, and sustainable business planning.
Enbridge also continues to position natural gas as an important part of the energy transition. The company believes natural gas can help reduce emissions compared with coal, especially in industries such as steel, mining, and cement manufacturing that require large amounts of energy. It also pointed to the affordability and availability of natural gas across North America.
Gregory Ebel, President and CEO of Enbridge, and Steven Williams, Chair of the Board, said the company remains focused on supplying energy people rely on today while preparing for the energy systems of the future.
The report also highlights progress on emissions reduction goals. Enbridge introduced greenhouse gas reduction targets in 2020, including a commitment to reach net zero emissions for Scope 1 and Scope 2 operations by 2050.
The company aims to cut the intensity of operational emissions by 35% by 2030 compared with 2018 levels. According to the report, the target was achieved in 2023, and progress has continued through 2024 and 2025.
To further reduce emissions, Enbridge is exploring carbon capture, carbon removal, and offset solutions. It is also replacing steel pipelines and reducing methane venting during repairs as part of efforts to lower emissions across its natural gas systems.
Energy access and reliability remain another major priority for the company. Through Enbridge Gas utilities, the business currently supplies natural gas to more than 7.1 million customers. The company is also investing in energy storage projects designed to improve reliability during periods of peak demand and severe weather events.
Technology is playing a larger role in infrastructure safety and maintenance. Enbridge said it uses drones and robotic tools to inspect pipelines and monitor potential corrosion or damage. In 2025, the company inspected more than 38 kilometres of pipelines using in-line inspection technologies.
Pete Sheffield, Chief Sustainability Officer at Enbridge, said the company has spent the past 25 years updating stakeholders on safety, environmental performance, community support, and governance standards.
