As the logical next step of its commitments, Renault seized the opportunity during the 2022 ChangeNOW Summit to unveil its latest concept car that is as innovative as it is visionary and ground-breaking: the Renault Scenic Vision. Its exterior sheds light on Renault’s upcoming all-electric C-segment family car. The technology featured inside takes the car occupants on a journey through time, into a future where technology and innovation will better serve a more sustainable world that will take better care of people and the environment. The Renault Scenic Vision concept car embodies Renault’s efforts to transform into a greener, more tech-oriented company focused on data, energy and services. It is a response to matters such as climate change, the preservation of resources, the safety and health of users, and accessibility. With zero emissions in production and when being driven, the concept car explores an alternative to all-electric vehicles: its hydrogen hybrid engine means it can run on batteries that are twice as light. It opens a new chapter in vehicle design that starts right from the initial idea through to the end of life, in an ecosystem-based approach, with 70% recycled and 95% recyclable materials (battery included). On-board technology used as part of the Safety Coach helps to reduce road accidents by up to 70% and incorporates health into the safety equation. In addition to being a designer object in its own right, it represents the Group’s goals that will be gradually incorporated into each upcoming generation of vehicles.

Objective: Carbon neutrality
Renault Group’s carbon neutrality strategy is one where everyone plays their part. CO2e* emissions are being reduce across the board: materials, components, production sites, vehicle emissions when on the road, second life and recycled vehicles. The entire vehicle life cycle is being optimised.

The Renault Scenic Vision is the real-world application of the brand's decarbonisation plan, thanks to its zero-emission engines, the use of carbon-free materials, and responsible production at carbon-neutral sites.

Its new generation engine, smaller battery with a reduced carbon footprint, and a green hydrogen fuel cell – made using renewable CO2e-free energy* – mean the Renault Scenic Vision is made with and runs on zero-emissions. Its unique, electric-hydrogen hybrid powertrain brings mobility into a whole new era, which the Group believes to be viable for the next ten years. Moreover, in not carrying any rare earth metals, it not only has a smaller carbon footprint but also helps foster a responsible and sustainable ecosystem.

Objective: circular economy and resource preservation
The Renault Scenic Vision is paving the way for a new industrial and commercial ecosystem that will make the circular economy a leading economic model. Its materials are carefully chosen. Recycled, renewable, and bio-based: they are used in optimized manufacturing processes and with natural finishes. Renault's latest concept car incorporates unprecedented levels of recycled and recyclable materials: more than 70% of its overall mass is made with recycled and renewable materials (steel, aluminium, carbon fibre…), and all materials used on board that are in direct contact with passengers are recycled. In addition, 95% of the materials used in the design – including the battery – are recyclable*. As such, resource recycling is deeply integrated into the model’s design.

In terms of energy resources, the Renault Scenic Vision is not just an independent part of the EV ecosystem. On the contrary, it is a fully integrated part that benefits from all experimentation carried out over recent years. As such, the concept car features smart charging capabilities that can feed energy back into the grid when needed, thanks to vehicle-to-grid (V2G) technology. Expertise in battery management (second life, recycling…) from both Renault and the Group's latest brand, Mobilize, includes know-how in easy, diverse charging solutions, at home or on the road, thereby covering the entire life cycle and value chain.

Objective: safety and inclusion
The Renault Scenic Vision, designed for long family trips, gives a visionary look into a safe, inclusive, and accessible car. Everything has been designed to create moments for living where everyone on board can feel as comfortable as possible. Ergonomics and accessibility are part to the Renault DNA and this concept car is no exception. The whole design team of passionate men and women were driven by the ambition to create a car that would serve as an example in terms of accessibility, comfort, and safety. The rear-hinged doors and lack of a B-pillar are key examples of the model’s enhanced accessibility. Comfort has been optimised thanks to an ergonomically designed cockpit, the slides back to let the driver climb on board and can readily adapt to the driver’s body shape once settled. These are but a few ways in which Renault leverages on-board innovation to place the well-being of its users above all else.
