Holcim has recently released its second climate report, which outlines the progress of its journey towards achieving net zero emissions.

The report includes the company's revised 2030 climate targets, which are aligned with the 1.5°C framework and have been validated by the Science Based Targets initiative. This demonstrates Holcim's commitment to accelerating its efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and combat climate change.

Holcim is stepping up its efforts to achieve its net zero goal by setting a target to reduce carbon emissions to 420 kg CO2 per tonne of cementitious materials by 2030. The company is also making strides in carbon capture utilisation and storage (CCUS) technology and has pledged to invest CHF 2 billion by 2030 to develop and implement mature technologies to capture more than 5 million tons of CO2 annually.

According to Jan Jenisch, the CEO of Holcim, the company is intensifying its efforts to combat climate change by setting new net zero targets and making a firm commitment to investing CHF 2 billion in carbon capture utilisation and storage (CCUS) technologies by 2030.

He emphasised the company's dedication to promoting the widespread adoption of low-carbon and circular construction practices while also making buildings more sustainable for long-term use to create more livable and environmentally friendly cities.

Magali Anderson, the Chief Sustainability & Innovation Officer of Holcim, emphasised the company's evidence-based approach to addressing climate change, as reflected in its updated 2030 targets, which align with the Science Based Targets initiative's 1.5°C framework.

She also highlighted Holcim's commitment to promoting innovation and pushing the limits of low-carbon and circular building practices, positioning the company as a leader in sustainable construction. Anderson expressed satisfaction with the progress being made by Holcim's sites in accelerating the transition to a net-zero future.

Holcim is taking a comprehensive approach to achieving its net zero ambitions, leveraging multiple strategies to reduce emissions. The company is incorporating decarbonised materials into its product formulations, increasing its use of renewable and alternative energy, and expanding its low-carbon building solutions such as ECOPact and ECOPlanet.

To drive circular construction across its business, Holcim has recycled 6.8 million tonnes of construction and demolition waste into new building solutions and is on track to exceed its 2025 target of 10 million tonnes. In addition, it increased its green investments by 15% in 2022, reaching CHF 403 million, and has successfully reduced its CO2 per net sales by 21% in 2022. The company aims to maintain this momentum and reduce CO2 emissions by over 10% in 2023.

Holcim is committed to providing its shareholders with a say in the company's climate strategy, as evidenced by the fact that its Climate Report will be put to an advisory vote at the Annual General Meeting on May 4, 2023. The report outlines the company's progress towards achieving its net zero goals and highlights the measures being taken to mitigate the environmental impact of its operations.
