As climate risks continue to rise worldwide, water security has become one of the most urgent sustainability challenges facing governments and businesses alike. This year, London Climate Action Week is highlighting the growing importance of water positivity and sustainable water management through Sustainability LIVE @ London Climate Action Week: The Leadership Summit.
Running from June 20 to 28, London Climate Action Week serves as a global platform focused on accelerating climate action, protecting ecosystems, and supporting decarbonization efforts. One of the central themes of the event is how organizations can create water-positive systems while meeting sustainability and ESG commitments.
According to the United Nations, nearly 2.2 billion people around the world still lack access to safe drinking water, while more than 4.2 billion people do not have proper sanitation facilities. The organization also estimates that global water demand could rise by 55% by 2050, with agriculture driving much of the increase.

Water positivity refers to a system where an organization replenishes or purifies more water than it consumes directly or indirectly while producing goods or services. Experts say this approach is becoming increasingly important as industries face rising pressure from regulators, investors, and communities to manage water resources responsibly.
The Water Positive Team notes that achieving water positivity requires several measures, including water purification technologies and sustainable resource management systems. Multi-barrier purification systems are among the solutions being discussed, as they can help create clean and reusable water supplies that exceed natural purity levels.
The concept also takes into account water footprints, water scarcity, environmental concerns, and social impacts. Sustainability experts believe that businesses adopting these strategies can strengthen resilience while supporting long-term environmental goals.
Sustainability LIVE @ LCAW is expected to attract more than 250 in-person attendees, bringing together senior sustainability executives, climate leaders, and ESG professionals. The one-day summit will feature 25 expert speakers and four executive workshops designed to provide practical insights into climate action, sustainability regulations, and net zero strategies.
The event will also focus on helping organizations respond to changing disclosure requirements and evolving global sustainability policies. Industry leaders attending the summit are expected to discuss how climate action can be integrated into operations, supply chains, and investment decisions.
A major highlight of the program is the Water Positivity Forum, which will examine strategies for protecting water resources and improving sustainable water management systems. Discussions will cover reducing water-related risks, increasing operational efficiency, and driving innovation in water stewardship.
Among the speakers joining the forum is Darshana Myronidis, a sustainability leader recognized in Sustainability Magazine’s Top 250 Leaders in 2026 for her work in driving systemic change across global organizations.
Speaking after receiving the recognition, Darshana thanked sustainability professionals worldwide and acknowledged the efforts of teams working behind the scenes to advance climate and ESG goals.
