COP30 Roadmap Targets Fossil Fuels, Deforestation, and Climate Action

Takeaways
- The COP30 presidency has released an executive report outlining key steps to accelerate global climate action after the summit in Brazil.
- Two major roadmaps focus on transitioning away from fossil fuels and halting deforestation by 2030, reinforcing commitments under the Paris Agreement.
- Efforts to mobilize climate finance through the Baku to Belém Roadmap aim to unlock $1.3 trillion, especially for developing nations.
The presidency of the 30th UN Climate Change Conference (COP30) has released its executive report, outlining how it plans to sustain momentum for global climate action in the months ahead. The report follows last November’s conference held in Belém, Brazil, which the presidency described as a decisive moment for strengthening international cooperation on climate goals.
According to the presidency, the summit resulted in 56 decisions adopted by consensus, reaffirming countries’ commitment to advancing measures that support the goals of the Paris Agreement. The report emphasizes that COP30 should not be viewed as a one-time event, but as part of a broader and ongoing global effort to turn climate commitments into measurable, real-world outcomes.
Continued Efforts to Drive Transition
At the centre of the presidency’s next phase is the COP30 Presidency Roadmap for Transitioning Away from Fossil Fuels in a Just, Orderly and Equitable Manner. The roadmap aims to compile scientific evidence, identify practical opportunities, and strengthen international dialogue on how countries can reduce dependence on fossil fuels while ensuring fairness and economic stability.
Another key initiative is the COP30 Presidency Roadmap for Halting and Reversing Deforestation and Forest Degradation by 2030. This effort underscores the critical role forests play in climate mitigation, biodiversity protection, and sustainable development. By encouraging stronger policies and collaboration, the roadmap seeks to accelerate progress toward reducing deforestation worldwide.
The executive report also highlights ongoing work to mobilize climate finance through the Baku to Belém Roadmap. The initiative aims to unlock $1.3 trillion in funding to support climate mitigation and adaptation projects, particularly in developing countries that face resource constraints but are often most vulnerable to climate impacts.

Sustaining Global Momentum
COP30 leaders emphasized that continued collaboration will be essential as countries prepare for future climate negotiations, including COP31, scheduled to take place in Antalya.
“As we prepare for the next rounds of dialogue and for close collaboration on the road to Antalya, we invite you to read this report not only as a record of what has been achieved, but also as a call to sustain momentum, honour our shared responsibilities, and carry forward the spirit of ‘mutirão’ that Belém inspired,” said André Corrêa do Lago, COP30 President, and Ana Toni, COP30 CEO.
They added that decisions made at COP30 should act as catalysts for economic transformation, helping countries build more resilient societies while restoring ecosystems. The presidency stressed that the global climate journey requires continued commitment from governments, businesses, and civil society alike.
