Climate Pledge Arena has launched a new Reusable Cup Programme in partnership with Bold Reuse, a packaging platform focused on sustainability.
This initiative is part of the arena’s aim to eliminate single-use plastics and cut down on the large amount of waste typically generated at sports and entertainment events. By introducing this programme, the arena has become the largest user of reusable cups in the Pacific Northwest.

Beginning August 30, every fan purchasing drinks at the arena’s marketplaces and bars will receive them in reusable cups rather than disposable ones. After finishing their drinks, fans will place the cups in collection bins located throughout the venue.
These cups will then be collected, professionally cleaned, and returned by Bold Reuse for future use, creating a smooth cycle that reduces the need for single-use materials.
This initiative also fits into Climate Pledge Arena’s broader zero waste strategy, developed alongside WM, its official recycling partner. Together, they are working to minimise waste and improve diversion rates, ensuring that more materials are reused or recycled instead of ending up in landfills.
By leading in these efforts, the arena is setting an example for the sports and entertainment industry in terms of sustainability practices.
Since opening in October 2021, Climate Pledge Arena has already achieved major sustainability certifications. It was the first arena in the world to earn the International Future Living Institute Zero Carbon certification, and also one of the first to achieve the True Waste Platinum Zero Waste Certification.

According to arena officials, the program is designed to be seamless for fans. All they need to do is enjoy their drinks and place the cups in marked bins, after which the arena and its partners will handle the cleaning and reuse process.
Leaders from Bold Reuse also highlighted that this partnership proves reusable systems can scale effectively, create a better fan experience, and set a new industry standard. The reusable cups will officially debut at the Seattle Storm game on August 30 and will be in use at all future events.
