Mondelēz International unveiled its 2023 Snacking Made Right report.

The report highlights the company's progress on environmental, social, and governance (ESG) issues throughout the year. It showcases their commitment to building a sustainable snacking company that offers the right kind of snacks, at the right time, and made in the right way.

This year's report continues Mondelēz International's tradition of providing clear and measurable information on their ESG goals, policies, and initiatives. Key areas of progress in 2023 include promoting mindful snacking, fighting climate change with science-based goals (including getting approval for their net-zero emission plan), expanding their signature Cocoa Life programme, making progress on diversity and inclusion, and working with others to create lasting change across the industry.

“I am incredibly proud of our work in 2023 to continue meeting evolving consumer preferences and delivering strong results while making meaningful progress against our ESG priorities, said Dirk Van de Put, Chairman and CEO of Mondelēz International. “We made this progress despite ongoing global inflation and economic uncertainty, a testament not only to the power of our iconic brands but also to our focused and strategic approach to sustainable growth.”

Mondelēz International takes a two-part approach to progress. First, they are transforming their own operations, including working closely with suppliers and distributors. Second, they are a leader in industry partnerships that encourage collaboration and joint action.

The company's achievements over the past years towards its 2025 goals include:

  • Mindful snacking: They are improving the nutrients and ingredients in their snacks, promoting healthy lifestyles, and helping consumers make informed choices.

  • Sustainable cocoa: They are expanding regenerative farming practices through their Cocoa Life programme, which helps reduce deforestation and lower emissions.

  • Climate action: They are taking concrete steps to reduce their environmental impact, like switching to renewable energy sources in many factories. Nearly half of their manufacturing electricity now comes from renewable sources, up from over 40% in 2022.

“This work creates value for our business and helps enable our future growth by making our business more resilient,” said Christine Montenegro McGrath, SVP, Chief Impact and Sustainability Officer. “Looking ahead, we aim to further sharpen, amplify and accelerate our impact across our priority areas. We are also focused on evolving to meet expanding regulatory requirements and remain committed to transparency in sharing our progress. I am grateful for the passion, drive and ownership Mondelēz International team members bring to their roles every day as we continue to drive positive impact at scale.”
